Orange Track Coupe

Few shapes are as instantly readable as a rear-engine track coupe finished in bright orange: a low, tapered nose, wide rear haunches over fat low-profile tires, and a fixed rear wing that exists for one reason only. It is a silhouette built by decades of circuit racing rather than by a styling studio, and it looks fast standing still.

The engineering under the orange bodywork is the real reward here. A working gearbox shifts through its gears from paddles behind the steering wheel, and the steering itself turns the front wheels from the cockpit. Both doors, the front hood and the rear lid open: the hood reveals a front storage compartment, and the rear lid lifts to show a detailed flat-six engine with pistons that move as the car rolls. Independent suspension on all four corners rides on bright red springs, and the cabin is finished with a molded dashboard, race-style seats and a glove compartment. At 57 cm long the completed model has real presence on a shelf, and the building sequence is organized in stages that mirror how the full-size car comes together.
